Read conversations

Click an item in Conversations to read it on the right. You can open every conversation Context has found.

If you have many conversations, narrow the list by Agent, working directory, or end date. The Agent and directory entries in the sidebar provide shortcuts to those filtered lists.

Use the outline to navigate long conversations. When the reading area is wide enough, your prompts appear in an outline on the right. Click one to jump to that point in the conversation.

If you remember specific text, use Find within the current conversation. If you do not know which conversation contains it, use Search conversations.

To keep a conversation easy to find, click the star in the conversation toolbar. Favorites appears on the left after you add your first favorite. Click the star again to remove it.

User messages and AI messages are shown by default and are enough for most reading. To see other content, open Display content in the conversation toolbar:

Option What it shows
User messages Messages you sent to the Agent.
AI messages Replies from the AI.
System messages System information saved with the conversation.
Reasoning Reasoning content saved by the Agent.
Tool calls Recorded actions taken by the AI through tools.
Tool results Content returned by those tools.

These choices use the same reading preferences as Conversation display content in Settings. Available content depends on what the Agent saved and what Context can read. See Supported Agents.

Before exporting, choose the message types to save on the export page.

Click Find in the conversation toolbar to locate text in the open conversation. Matches are highlighted as you type:

  • Press Enter for the next match or Shift+Enter for the previous one. You can also use the arrows in the find bar.
  • Press Esc to close the find bar.

Find searches the content types enabled under Display content. To find text in tool results or reasoning, enable those types first. If a match is inside a collapsed long message, that content expands automatically.

Click the copy button below a message to copy the whole message, or select and copy just the text you need.

Attachments appear with the messages they belong to. Clicking a local attachment that Context can locate shows the file in your file manager. Web links open in your default browser. Images and audio are shown as references.

If an attachment cannot be opened, a note beside it explains whether the file is missing or cannot be located. Use that information to check the original file.

To see where a conversation came from, expand Source files at the bottom of the conversation. You can view the related record files, copy their full paths, or show them in your file manager. If Context reports missing content or another reading issue, check Parsing details at the bottom. See Frequently asked questions for help.
