Data and privacy

When you use Context, three kinds of data are involved: the original conversations saved by your Agents, data saved by Context, and files you export. Knowing the difference helps you preserve important content and avoid deleting records by mistake when cleaning up files.

  1. Original conversations saved by your Agents

Your Agents save conversation records in files on your computer. Context accesses these files in read-only mode and needs them to open or export conversations.

  2. Data saved by Context

This includes favorite markers, preferences such as language and appearance, and license information for this device. To support browsing and search, Context also saves conversation information and searchable message text on your computer.

  3. Files you export

Exported files contain the conversation content you selected and are saved to a folder you choose. You can read, share, or back them up independently.

Export important conversations while you can still open them, then back up the exports elsewhere as needed.

Attachments in exported documents may appear as links or paths. Save the corresponding images, audio, and other files as well.

To preserve the Agent’s own records, back up its original files as well.

If an Agent’s original files are moved or deleted, Context may still show a title or search excerpt, but opening or exporting the conversation requires those files.

Before cleaning up Agent conversation records yourself, make sure you have exported or backed up anything important.

Take care when deleting Context’s own data too. Doing so may remove favorites and settings or require you to activate the device again. Check whether you still need this data before removing it.

To locate a conversation’s files, expand Source files at the bottom of the conversation. If the files still exist but the conversation will not open, see Frequently asked questions.

Scanning, searching, reading, and exporting all run on this computer. They do not upload conversation text to our servers.

Update checks, purchases, activation, license verification, and website account management require internet access. Opening a web link in a conversation also connects to that website. See the website Privacy policy for how information is handled when using online services.

If you upload exported files to cloud storage or send them to another service, that service is responsible for their subsequent storage and handling. Check files for private information before sharing them.
